The Conveyor – December 2021

2021, The year that was…

I think it’s fair to say that 2021 has been another challenging year for us all. With complications and disruptions to our lives, we have all been impacted at work, home or school.

For us as retailers the challenges keep coming. Whether it’s having to wear masks all day, managing inconsistent deliveries from suppliers or perhaps dealing with upset or anxious customers.

I want to thank you all for rising to those challenges, because without you we wouldn’t be able to open our doors every day to serve our local communities. I certainly appreciate your loyalty and commitment.

Despite these challenges and through the dedication and hard work from our teams, our business has continued to grow and develop over this year.

The supermarkets and bottle shops have all been acknowledged through the IGA & IBA audits, with all our stores scoring highly. Congratulations to our management teams in each store for an impressive result.

Our supermarkets have benefitted from each team’s drive to improve retail execution with an emphasis on creating better displays and improved messaging to our customers. Each store has also implemented an extensive range review across the Grocery, Dairy & Frozen foods departments.

We continue to work on our sustainability initiatives and we were proud that Woodside Foodland was chosen as the site to launch the SA Independent Retailers Food Waste & Recycling Strategy. We have led the state by completely eliminating plastic checkout bags & plastic fruit & veg bags. Over the next year we will continue to lead by example as we roll out more sustainability programs in our stores.

On behalf of our family & our management team, I’d like to wish you all a happy & safe Christmas. I hope you get a chance to enjoy some time with friends and family during this busy festive period.

Nick Klose

Congratulations go out to both our Cellarbrations Nairne & Woodside stores on receiving a 5 STAR RATING at the most recent Cellarbrations Independant Brands Australia audit

All Klose’s Supermarkets stores recently undertook and passed OEP audits with flying colours and we couldn’t be prouder of each store’s management team and all employees.  There were two types of audits conducted across our stores in August 2021, Silver and Gold (Gold being a more in depth audit).

On the 22nd October we celebrated Klose’s Supermarkets & Cellarbrations at Nairne turning 1!  Gosh didn’t that go fast!  Congratulations to Ken Hodges (Supermarket Mananger) and Stephen Bolt (Cellarbrations Manager) and their wonderful teams.  You have done a fantastic job this past year running these two stores!

KLOSE’S SUPERMARKETS LEAD THE WAY!

FOODLAND/IGA COMMUNITY CHEST PROGRAM
Community Chest is a program by which a Foodland store can raise funds and give back to their local communities by selling products. Participating suppliers donate $1c from every sale of selected products to Community Chest and Klose’s Supermarkets are able to select a local charity to receive funds raised in a particular period.  We have chosen to distribute the funds raised by our specific stores to the local CFS stations within their townships
AND EVEN BETTER, Klose’s are going to match the Community Chest
funds raised to DOUBLE THE DONATION!

Giving back to those that support us is very important at Klose’s so we are super proud to advise the following donations will be made this year through the Community Chest program.

Klose’s ‘Ten Year Service’ Team Dinner

Each year the Klose family invite all employees (and their partners) who have been employed by the company for 10yrs+ out for dinner.  This is to celebrate new members to the team and to say thank you for another year of valued service.  This year the dinner was held at Sidewood Estate on Dec 3rd.  There are 35 staff members in the ‘Ten Year Service Team’ including 10 who are 20yrs+ employment which is just amazing!  This year we welcomed seven new members: Lindy, Lisa, Mick, Nick, Paul, Paula and Simon and congratulated Mel on achieving an amazing 20yrs with Klose’s Supermarkets.  A wonderful evening was had by all who were able to attend.
